history

Chinos were first used as military clothing – they were worn by British and French soldiers during the Spanish-American War in the mid-19th century. The Filipinos called the material made in China “Chino” after the place of origin, and this name was quickly transferred to the garment made from it.

A typical feature of the chinos comes from the thrifty wartime – it was and is no material for envelopes “wasted”. The first army pants were khaki and were therefore called “khakis”.
