Classification of the category chinos
The term “chinos” refers to a special type of cotton twill pants. The fabric is very light and breathable, but robust and dimensionally stable.
Features and cut
Chinotwill can be recognized by the sloping herringbone pattern. This leads to a dense, even and at the same time loose surface structure. The cut is similar to that of the cargo trousers, but there are no countless patch pockets. there are mostly narrow pockets only on the front hip.
history
Chinos were first used as military clothing – they were worn by British and French soldiers during the Spanish-American War in the mid-19th century. The Filipinos called the material made in China “Chino” after the place of origin, and this name was quickly transferred to the garment made from it.
A typical feature of the chinos comes from the thrifty wartime – it was and is no material for envelopes “wasted”. The first army pants were khaki and were therefore called “khakis”. After the war they established themselves in civilian clothes, not least because of the pleasantly light feeling. Therefore, chinos are also classified as summer clothing, they are simply too thin and airy for the cold season.
